Talking about Bermuda, DG Lora H said there were about 30 people from District 7230. The Bermuda trip was wonderfully planned with 4 events. Lora said that Bermuda has a vibrant Rotary presence. There is a very large ongoing effort to recruit young men and women.
Jason introduced our Guest Speaker, past DG Joseph Dino. He spoke of the Rotary Club’s history and how the European Clubs seem to be shocked if you, as a business person, are not a member of Rotary. He spoke of an interesting story when he was sharing an elevator ride with a gentlemen, another Rotarian. This man turned out to be one of the wealthiest people in the world! He touted Rotary as the largest organization in the world to give aid, scholarships and, in addition, has a permanent seat in the UN. He hailed Rotary as virtually stamping out polio. He emphasized the importance of keeping the members engaged so they remain active members. Hailing from Patterson, NJ, he spoke of one of their Rotary events which was conducted like a Business Fair and encouraged us to do the same. Mention of a template available to create brochures to encourage new members to join. Joseph closed by saying that when he closes his eyes on this earth, he will say, I did a good job in this world and made a difference. Being a Rotarian, makes this possible.”
Bio: Joe was Special Assistant Rotary Representative at the United Nations where, in 2014 and 2015, he specialized and presented panel discussion on women’s health issues. He was honored nationally and was appointed to the Multi-district PETS Alliance Register for Motivational Speakers. Many past Rotary Presidents and Directors are on this select list and are utilized by Multi-district PETS all over the United States for motivational and training of incoming presidents. There are only two from the state of New Jersey and Joe is one of them.
Jason thanked him for speaking and all applauded him.
Melanie R. Ciraco
